Our client is a trusted Canadian audio-visual integrator specializing in designing, installing, and supporting AV systems for K–12 schools, campuses, and commercial environments. Their projects include classroom AV systems, gymnasium sound and video setups, digital signage networks, paging systems, and outdoor LED displays.

They take pride in delivering high-quality, reliable, and user-friendly AV solutions that enhance learning and communication experiences. Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced AV Lead Technician to join their team in Edmonton.

Position Overview

The AV Lead Technician will take the lead in managing and executing installation projects across school and commercial environments. This role involves hands-on work with AV systems, mentoring junior technicians, and ensuring every installation meets technical standards, timelines, and client expectations.

The ideal candidate is a strong communicator, technically skilled, and confident in leading on-site crews.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee on-site AV installations, including classrooms, gymnasiums, digital signage, paging, and outdoor LED systems.
  • Interpret system drawings, schematics, and blueprints to ensure accurate installation.
  • Perform equipment rack builds, wiring, terminations, and testing of audio, video, and control systems.
  • Conduct system commissioning, calibration, and troubleshooting to ensure optimal performance.
  • Supervise, train, and mentor junior AV technicians and subcontractors.
  • Collaborate with project managers and engineers to ensure timely completion of projects.
  • Document work completed, update system drawings, and maintain installation reports.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and professional work environment at all job sites.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, vendors, and internal teams regarding project progress and technical challenges.
  • Provide post-installation service and support as needed.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on AV installation experience in commercial or educational environments.
  • Proficient in installing and configuring AV systems, including displays, projectors, amplifiers, DSPs, microphones, and speakers.
  • Strong understanding of AV signal flow, control systems (Crestron, Extron, Biamp, etc.), and basic networking.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, technical drawings, and wiring diagrams.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven experience leading or mentoring field teams.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Willingness to travel locally to job sites within the Edmonton area.

Preferred:

  • CTS or CTS-I certification.
  • Experience working with AV systems in schools or campus environments.
  • Familiarity with low-voltage wiring, cable management, and rack building.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
